Change on the last Big Thief album.
@Aziel Precisely Aziel. @sober2death Sister is better imo. In fact the first time I heard it was on the plane, and it was my best experience with it. Congratulations is one of the best records of all time. Their latestalbum Once Twice Melody is very interesting though. MSD is heavier but it also has some very catchy comfortable melodies in there, SD is 100% dissonance and nastiness. Pure insanity to kick off a monster of a concept album. A perfect summary of the album you're about to hear whilst still leaving enough open for the rest of the album to still be interesting and surprising, I was just making a playlist the other day of some of my favorite opening tracks so this came out at the perfect time! @quillyear That one too. 10/10 for a 12/10 album, @saurabh levin I actually really like that sample. if you ever do a part 2 to this video, you need to check out Yankee And The Brave by Run The Jewels. I think "My Boy" from Car Seat Headrest's "Twin Fantasy" is another song that does it's job pretty well. I also think that Jumpsuit does a great work to set the mood for Trench. 'Death on Two Legs' from Queen's 'Night at the Opera' album. I really recommend "Black Foliage: Animation Music" by the Olivia Tremor Control, starts off with a short strange droning noise to let you know you're in for something strange and nocturnal. Not as much the lyrics but the production is what matters. he has never missed. The album itself is great, if not quite extraordinary, but from the first second of the opener, the song makes you feel like a tiny particle hurtling at a million miles per hour away from Earth into outer space. Hounds of love is one of the best albums of all time. is one of the best first songs on an album I've ever heard same with Na Na Na. Theyre amazing and I would love to see your reaction to Bloom, 7 and Once Twice Melody, Personal choices:"The End" by MCR"Song Of The Century" by Green Day"What Ever Happened?" Like it's not incredibly experimental or masterfully made, but within the context of that 2000s emo phase pop punk, it's a really really good opener that sets off a (relatively) unorthodox album for that period and genre. Always gonna argue for Battery by Metallica. The Original or the Cover? Such a raw and pure sound that developed into something even greater later. Ford doesn't make chargers . Irmin Schmidt on the keys adds an alien-like quality to the affair, often sounding like technical equipment blips in an intergalactic spaceship. Just a genius opener to a genius album, which fully invites countless relistens as it also has the rare quality of feeling like you're always discovering something new.I legitimately feel it's an album that everyone should listen to. The opening track from Vektors Terminal Redux Charging the Void is an amazing song. Not as an opener, but as a cohesive song, the way it builds up the tension, sustains it and then fades away into the next track is just insane. The whole combination is hypnotic in the extreme, and it feels like what a rock album might sound like if it came from the Canis Major galaxy instead of our Milky Way. @Snail Of God yes!!
Woodpecker on Pulse Demon by Merzbow is one that stands out to me.I hate harsh noise music, but it's very memorable & recognisable. Glad I was right to say Wesley's Theory is absolute fire, my fave Kendrick song. - My Chemical RomanceIntro - LogicCall to arms - Angels & AirwavesIntro/No Reason - Sum 41Bridge Burning - Foo FightersThriller - Fall Out BoyAnthem Part Two - Blink-182Captains of the sky - Sky SailingPolitik - ColdplayOne more time - Daft PunkSorrow Season (Yeah) - Brand NewWooly - Breathe CarolinaDive in - Pierce the veilUndiscovered Colors - The Flashbulb2 + 2 = 5 - RadioheadCherub Rock - The Smashing PumpkinsBrianstorm - Arctic MonkeysAttack - System of a DownTemptation Waits - Garbage, I like how your live chat actually has things to say as opposed to spamming "W" or "trash" the whole time, @chickenlittle33 this 'we are better than others' just rubs me the wrong way, I think a big part of it is that Bradley properly uses his community tab to keep his audience engaged in his content, so everyones always having a discussion, Have to mention 21st Century Schizoid Man. That song is an actual masterpiece. First Reaction to Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers (2022) Part 1, I knew it was going to be bad but WOW IT IS SO BAD (YBN Nahmir - Visionland Reaction 2021), In Rainbows - Reacting to Radiohead's albums in order #7 (Part 1), THIS IS THE BEST MEME ALBUM!!! And this song presents all these ideas in a palatable way, inviting you in to the absolute mind-fuckery that will progressively occur as the album runtime goes on. gaga narrating her confession to a murder with the build up of insturments starting from a ukelele, into the payoff of an explosion of sound that would match the rest of the album's sound is perfect. Would be super down to see you react to Beach House and/or MGMT, aura - lady gaga from artpop. Yes, I couldn't have made a better suggestion myself. Definetly get into more beach house!! The album is a concept album about a young man who suffers a mental breakdown, and the opening track really sets the stage with lyrics of rage and confusion, blazing guitar leads, and overall a wild energy that makes you want to keep listening. Idk how popular they are cause I've never seen anyone else talk abt them so this makes me happy :D, I performed the Infinite Money Glitch using this horrible album, First Reaction to Black Eyed Peas - "The Beginning" (2010), My Controversial Opinion on Eminem's "Music To Be Murdered By", Worst To Best: Ranking Some Of Your Song Requests, I AM WITNESSING HISTORY. Right away we get a slow fade in that stops before you hear I think Im losing my mind. Then the band kicks in and starts going ham. @Torotsuna I mean I just love the overall sound and writing of it all. Totally get if a lot of it doesnt land for you though. I'll never forgive Brad for disliking Teen Age Riot. if only all of SY's stuff was as good as daydream nation Cant believe no one mentioned Kanyes Dark Fantasy, easily one of the best intro tracks on any rap album, @MAN it should be a crime to not like mbdtf, probably my favorite opener of all time to a hip hop record. Its as urgent and violent as it gets, has one of their most dark lyrics, without being lyrically centered and/or challenging like Beware, that kind of depends on its lyrics to be REALLY effective. Other great openers:Mastodon- Blood and ThunderJoni Mitchell - overture/ cotton AvenueAphe. as soon as I saw this video show up on my feed, this was the first song that came to mind. Twin - 4Tool - The GrudgeFunkadelic - Maggot BrainPatti Smith - GloriaNIN - head like a hole is a better opener imoDeath grips - get gotRatm - Testify is a much better intro too, Some of my picks from some of my favorite artists:My name is Jonas - WeezerThe End/Dead! It is a little bit more held back compared to Mr.Self Destruct but its escalation of emotional turmoil building up is cartatic and intense. The lyrics coming in and giving you a sense of nostalgia and adventure together. The entire album feels like taking drugs without being on drugs. Also Sonic Nurse is criminally underrated. Songs that werent big, popular singles but that are still really great in their own right. Obviously these are all W's. It took a while for it to get to a 10 for me though. I think my favorite album opener of all time has to be Farewell Transmission on Magnolia Electric Co. by Songs: Ohia. - Hallogallo10.Can - Pinch11.Primus - Defy Laws of Tradition12.Robert Wyatt - Sea Song13.Polvo - Fast Canoe 14.Nick Cave - Tupelo15.Pram - Gravity16.Songs Ohia: Lightning Risked it Al17.Mercury Rev - Meth of a Rockette's Kick18.Tom Waits - Underground19.Burial - Distant Lights20.Books - Lemon of Pink20.1 Frank Zappa - Plastic People20.2 Cocteau Twins - Ivo20.3 Jon Hassell - Toucan Ocean. So many overlooked songs on that one. It is usually lumped in with other Krautrock acts, but so is Kraftwerk, which kind of renders the very idea of Krautrock having a 'sound' as insignificant. One of my favorite openers is Trip Like I Do by The Crystal Method! i would give teen age riot another chance, its an incredible song once you let it work its magic, Some of my picks:Amy Winehouse - RehabSkinny Puppy - AssimilateLana del Rey - Norman Fucking RockwellCoil - The Anal StaircaseMinistry - StigmataNIN - Somewhat Damaged. )Crash - Charli XCXOn the Bound - Fiona AppleJust Like Starting Over - John Lennon15 Step - Radiohead (SO MUCH RADIOHEAD)I'm Dancing in the Show Tonight - WeenDynasty - Rina SawayamaMine - Taylor SwiftBy the way, you should also do best album closers! after waiting a few years to release another album, they come back with this dystopian banger with incredible rapping. easily LCD Soundsystems Dance Yrself Clean. "Next Level Charli" from Charli is one of my favorite openers of all time. Born Under Punches by Talking Heads has the fantastically iconic start of three drums and a yell, before bringing you into one of the coolest grooves ever that lets listeners know instantly how the album will sound. Igors Theme is so good because it sets up the tonal and production direction of the record. @Guit4r Guy man, can you please explain me why? That intro sets the entire tone and structure for the rest of the album. You can choose any death grips opener imo. They are amazing at setting the tone for albums. Wait, I listen to that Microphones album on the plane too. Absolutely gorgeous and more importantly it sets up the ultimate theme of this break-up album: how do we deal with our constant yearning for bliss in a reality where everything is in flux? Layne is one of my fave singers of all time. The best opener I can think of right now is "Real Death" by Mount Eerie. He needs to do an AiC discogaphy reaction, period. That song kicks hard. Bruh how can you not like Teenage Riot.. Anyways I hope you check out more Sonic Youth in the future there are so much variety and fresh feelings in their music. So catchy and fun and so awesome. Na Na Na is so good, DD is very overlooked in my opinion, even though it has some pretty subpar tracks. In the space of 7 minutes, Isaac Brock and co. take you through every aspect of the album in one distilled bottle of skittish, paranoid, yet ultimately melancholy perfection. its so great and perfectly encapsulates the whole vibe of the album. Damo Suzuki often times sounds like he's in full on glossolalia, just kind of vocalising in a language that seems like what English might sound like in a half-remembered dream, often high in the mix but at times descending low, giving the illusion that he's reaching out through some tear in space-time from another dimension. The build up in the opening for After the Flood is perfection, but afterwards I find it to be a bit underwhelming, but still always a great listening experience. It's the best opener after Alison probably, I think both Ivo and When Mama was Moth are better Cocteau Twins openers. Yes, it's about aliens, but it's also a great lead-in to a pretty good but unfortunately overlooked album. none of the songs on daydream nation compare to it (though they're amazing too). A perfect start to a perfect album. I think the lyric writing and the edge of its sound combined with how ahead of its time it was is all really cool. So much raw emotion on those tracks. Also glad Kate Bush is growing on you (my Dad loved her so much he named me after her ). Agreed, and Pink Diamond could probably also make this video easily. would be interested in seeing a reaction to Giles Corey's self titled.
gets answered in the last song, after a nearly two hour journey, is incredibly powerful and ties the entire record together. There are loads of catchy, clever, and creative gems throughout, with some cool psychedelic moments as well, The New Year by Death Cab for Cutie is one of my favorites. The grand opening guitar chords are cool. Julian Cope describes Tago Mago this way: it "sounds only like itself, like no-one before or after", and I tend to agree. The piano and screeching guitar building up to Freddie Mercury's vocals and the awesome guitar work, mixed with the brutal lyrics, really hook you in for the musical journey that the album is.Also 'Blind' by Korn off their self titled. (Reacting to Real Music Pt.5 ), I Suffered Through the ENTIRE Demondice Discography, First Reaction to grandson - "death of an optimist" part 1, RESPECTED MUSIC CRITIC REACTS TO AJR - "OK ORCHESTRA" pt. I love Kate Bush. It simultaneously feels like improvisational jamming and carefully orchestrated, which it kind of is - Holger Czukay, the bass player, would often record the band jamming for extended periods and would then splice up the recordings into fully realised songs. It helps add connection between the two of the albums and it builds on the themes established in Anthem part 1. The track slaps and the record too. Going to suggest Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft by Klaatu, off their first album "3:47 EST." Such an overlooked Hip Hop group, super influential and groundbreaking. Why is no one mentioning "I thought about killing you" in Ye? The fifth track is 32 minutes long and its amazing lmao. Yessirr!!! I know this isnt the best explanation but its all I got off the top of my head lol. I think I have to give it to MSD but there is something about how Somewhat Damaged immediately hits you with an arguably less forgiving sound than 90% of Downward Spiral. @Elijah Fords Idiotic Variety Show Ok man we get it, you don't like it, and nothing we say will make you reconsider, so why keep typing, just leave it as is and go enjoy what you enjoy, @Elijah Fords Idiotic Variety Show its definitely not a song for everyone, I just love that he is just so Kanye on this song.
The Original or the Cover?
The opening track on Rid of Me, by P.J. As soon as I got the notification for this video I was like please do angel by massive attack and it was literally the second song, so W for meMy part 2 suggestion would be Cherry Colored Funk by Cocteau Twins, my jaw hit the floor so hard when I first heard it, xilent - connection from we are virtual. It's like these guys, soaked in mushroom and LSD-accelerated creativity, achieve what you'd want every musician to achieve - strip away genre, revert back to a childlike naivete of playing around just for the sheer ecstatic enjoyment of it, and create the exact type of music that they wanted to create. But when the bridge comes is amazing.
as an electronic music fan, this is one of my favourite projects of all time. Here's my list of fav openers:1.Leonard Cohen - Suzanne2.Steve Roach - Towards the Dream3.Fiery Furnaces - Quay Cur4.Autechre - Cipater5.Pixies - Bone Machine6.Fennesz - Made in Hong Kong7.Magnetic Fields - Lonely Highway8.John Coltrane - Giant Steps 9.NEU!
(Birth of Rap) by Lil B is a perfect opening to 6 Kiss. Fantastic song, heres some of my personal picks:clipping. Son Et Lumiere into Inertiatic ESP is a way better opener than Cygnus imo, it really defines a great album opener. Peak pop punk IMO, I really like this song, but I think I'd like it more if the rest of the album stood up to it. Anthem Part 2 is probably one of the best examples of connecting an album to the previous album I've ever seen. @Azielthey really do devotion feels like their sweetest and warmest album but with a sense of sadness or just longing with songs like turtle island or astronaut being examples fof this but definitely underated I constantly revisit those two first albums, @Music Lover I feel the same its really underrated. It almost takes on the form of an actual person, exploding in bouts of frustration, then resigning themselves to the hopeless futility of it all. First Reaction to Silk Sonic - "An Evening with Silk Sonic", First Reaction to Justin Bieber - I Feel Funny , First Reaction to Jack Harlow - Come Home The Kids Miss You (2022), First Reaction to MOOORRE Twenty One Pilots - Twenty One Pilots (self titled) Part 2 + Review, First Reaction to Harry Styles - Harry's House (2022). The Next Day off of The Next Day by Bowie was a perfect opener for that album, especially because it was comeback after his 2000s hiatus. You should definitely react to Oracular Spectacular, its one of my favorite albums and people mainly just remember it for the singles which is a shame. I'd be lying if I didn't say this song alone was what encouraged me to listen to the rest of the album. That album was released in parts and every time a new part came out it made me return to the album every time therefore it stuck with me more like 4 months or something, it's a very cozy psychedelic album that really reminds me of that one part from Empire Ants.TL:DR Good album, listen to it. 1. I mean look at Dramamine, Teeth Like Gods Shoeshine, The World At Large (if you dont count Horn Intro), Never Ending Math Equation, and (my personal all time favourite song) 3rd Planet. Particularly, "Like a Prayer". Mirrors by BTBAM from the Great Misdirect is incredibly underrated and one of the best openers.
Has a groove that is very catchy and still has this overall dark ambient vibe that sets the tone for the rest of the album. @Torotsuna yeah no problem!! Them Bones and Would? @Eugenia Novotoroff song is essentially daveed going off on a beat thats literally just a very high pitched tone and decently harsh noise, and i love it. grooves thanks to one of the best drummers ever, Jaki Liebezeit. Forgot to mention one of my favorite openersMy Morning Jacket - Victory Dance, from Circuital (2011). Somewhat Damaged and Mr Self Destruct are both up there. So I heard you want to get into more beach house, I recommend you listen to the newest album Once Twice Melody, hell do a video on it. One More Time off Discovery just perfectly sets up what to expect from that album and is also a certified banger. when i think of artpop i think of aura. It sets the tone so well and really feels like Charli is ascending to a new level of artistry following her Pop 2 mixtape. to be fair Sonic Youth is a band thats meh on first listen and becomes something to love overtime. A lot of the time their first album has this essence of rawness that is never replicated again. I know you've heard this a few times Brad as people sent it in in the streams, but the moment that riff finally kicks in.. nothing more to be said. @Elkatish The Rainbow is fantastic, but After the Flood is better in my opinion. These are exactly what brad was looking for, @jokre Im not really a sad person just like sad music, Yo Brad, you gotta do a full album listen to Alice In Chains' Dirt, absolute classic. All of Beach Houses albums are nuancing in their own great way, but their first 2 albums have this special ingredient of rawness and purity which makes them special. Sets the tone for the rest of the album perfectly, I probably prefer airbag as a song, but I think Everything in it Right Place is their best opener in terms of setting the tone for the album, and how interesting and out of left field it was for Radiohead, incredibly based, especially eternal worm, never meant, and my boy. It perfectly encapsulates the entire album, as well as the band's sound, in a heart-wrenching and incredibly impressive way. Oh and the vocals sound amazing. Also The Grudge by Tool. But those first two albums Self Titled and Devotion have something special in them. Fantano's description of "It sounds like her hyperpop robot persona is singing/shouting her swan song as her mainframe is being melted" is so true. Disloyal Order of Water Buffalos by Fall Out Boy is one of my personal favorite album openers. Queens of the Stone Age - Feet Don't Fail Me. Levitation by Beach House is such an incredible opener, it feels like the album is slowly floating towards you beckoning you to follow it and its such a beautiful song. Cygnus Vismund Cygnus is such a great opener to one of my favorite albums. Couldn't recommend Alice in Chains enough, especially the stuff with Layne Staley. It sets up the whole phenomanal album as a banger album that's not your typical pop album. I hope you find plenty to like from them like I have :). Dirt is phenomenal and stands out as their best, but Facelift, Jar of Flies, Tripod and Unplugged are all fantastic in their own ways. Its just over 9 minutes, but it really doesnt feel that long for me. Dark Spring is another great beach house opener, it really kicks the album off with a beautiful rush of bliss and feels like flying through the clouds, then has a descending transition to Pay No Mind that feels like diving into the ocean and slowly sinking deeper and deeper. it fits with the song's idea and is especially good in the trippy part towards the end.I do think Kanye's samples are usually "lazy", but that doesn't matter in the slightest, if it sounds good who cares, @saurabh levin nah thats one of the best samples of all time, also debatably his best song or one of them, @James Kovacic not his best use of a sample imo - it just cuts out of nowhere and sounds really out of place in an otherwise great track. Glad someone mentioned Clipping. I still think that The Rainbow has incredible dynamics that make it in my opinion, more effective than After the Flood which also makes it feel much shorter despite both songs being roughly the same length. Then the warped guitar of the first real song chimes in and you really get a feel for what you're listening to. Then descends into a downward spiral that runs through the entire album with its drug fueled disconnected highs and low cries for help.
