Across the board from the affordable to the very expensive, you can find exciting developments in TV technology that make 2022 a great year to upgrade your aging TV. Most TVs have three or four HDMI ports, but some might only have two. They all come with a few built-in streaming applications, internet connectivity, and often a few adverts to go with it. All HDMI ports on this TV are HDMI 2.1, so you get access to all 8K local playback options as they become available in the next few years. Ultra HD Blu-ray releases are relatively paltry outside of major new movies, though, so if you want to watch your favorite obscure film you might have to downgrade to 1080p or even 480p with a Blu-ray or DVD. This isn't a completely positive upgrade, however, due to some new technology that enables its vivid colors. On that last point, it still exceeds the 1,000cd/m^2 peak brightness level necessary to show most HDR content. It could be a steal, or it could be a disappointment. You don't need to buy the biggest TV you can afford, and in actuality, buying one that best fits your room and has the features you need is a better idea. The long-running success of liquid crystal display (LCD) screens is increasingly being eroded by affordable competition from organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels. If you aren't looking for a flagship TV, though, there are other brands worth considering too. Other features worth considering are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options for connecting to the internet and wireless devices like Bluetooth headphones. A big TV that's too close can be just as uncomfortable to watch as a small one that's too far away, so don't assume that the biggest screen available is the best choice. With a high refresh rate of 120Hz and a fast response time, and low input lag, this TV is primed for gaming. It's still only about as good as an entry-level soundbar, so audiophiles will want to upgrade beyond that, but for everyone else, acoustic screen technology might be all you need for a great sounding TV. The Samsung QN90B is a great example of that, capable of hitting over 2,000 nits across 10% of the screen at a time in both SDR and HDR mode. LG's OLEDs have the brightest screens thanks to the new Evo panels, while Samsung's have the best coloring and vibrancy with the new QD-OLED technologies. New 8K options are offering still more resolution, to provide a nearly life-like level of detail with a crisp picture even on the biggest of TV panels. That's quite typical now, though, so unless you're looking to buy something extremely low budget, then 4K is what you want to target. Where traditional OLED TVs use a white organic LED which is then passed through a filter to generate different colors, QD-OLED uses a blue self-luminescence which is then adjusted by quantum dots to generate different colors, including pure white. Most devices that connect to a TV, whether it's a games console, Blu-ray player, or A/V system, use HDMI cables. Keep an eye out for sales around big sporting events like the Super Bowl, or when football season is just starting. Still, technology moves fast, so even buying top of the line today won't seem that impressive a few years from now. The speakers built into the TVs are typically okay for casual channel surfers, but if you want to immerse yourself in a movie or game, youll find the audio quality inferior. This TV is also frequently available for below its suggested retail price, which helps solidify it as one of the best budget-priced TVs we've seen yet. So, for the time being, don't worry about 8K suddenly replacing 4K. Whether you want a big TV or not, you're always going to be somewhat restricted by the physical space you have to put it in. This helps ensure you get the lowest input lag and highest, synchronized refresh rate possible.
You might have to pay a little more for Sony TVs, but they can sometime be oh-so-worth-it. LG continues to shrink its TVs bezels, with the G2 Bezels are thinner, giving it a seamless look from every angle. Then it moved on to 1080p versus Ultra HD, or 4K (3,840 by 2,160, with eight million pixels). This TV has the brightness of LED and the contrast of OLED in one awesome package. ARC enables sound to be sent downstream to a connected soundbar or speaker system from the TV, over HDMI, and supports compressed 5.1-channel surround sound like optical connections do. If you want to play the latest games and benefit from new features like eARC, you need to make sure your TV supports HDMI 2.1. 8K TVs are currently available as premium models for significantly more money than their 4K equivalents (including OLED TVs, which are already pricier), but they aren't going to be meaningful for consumers for a few more years, and there's little reason to consider buying one yet unless you have lots of cash to burn. The best TVs of 2022 are leaps and bounds ahead of anything you might have bought in recent years. In fact, to our eyes, its contrast is actually higher than the company's S95B OLED TV. You are also likely to find a sea of cheap TVs that don't measure up in one way or another. This happens less and less with modern designs, though, thanks to clever mitigation technologies. This is the case when we measure their light output with total light isolation, but not for normal viewing. Because of improving LCD and OLED panel technology, high-end televisions can display wider color gamuts and finer gradients of light and dark than before. If you're going to sit 15 feet away from the screen across the room, get a bigger TV to make the most of its picture. It has miniscule bezels and overall sleek design that makes it easy to mount the TV on, or against, your wall. As a rule, TVs aren't rugged and you shouldn't use them outside. If you want the best of the best, you're going to have to pay for it, and the Samsung S95B is set to be the best TV of 2022. That's incredibly impressive, as is the fact that this is the brightest OLED TV we've seen so far as well. Another option is to use headphones. The TCL 6-Series of TVs for 2020 offers the best picture for the line yet, with fantastic color and contrast for a reasonable price.
