History and architecture lovers will enjoy a visit to the South Carolina State House, a refined 19th-century building established in 1851, and a structure that took over half a century to construct. By far South Carolina State Capital grounds were the prettiest weve seen out of 30+ Capitals that weve been to . The Tubman Museums exhibits on African-American art, history and culture include a huge mural and the Inventors Gallery. This park is located in downtown Beaufort along the waters of the Beaufort River. 10/10 I highly recommend. It was quite the treat! One of our activities outside the park was a pontoon boat tour with a local company. The building itself and the views from the building are gorgeous and, to my knowledge, there are only a few true spas in the Atlanta where they have a jacuzzi, heated pool, etc that you can access, which was the reason why I booked here. The 2.6 Mile boardwalk was easily doable with me and my elementary aged kids. I just felt like they were catering to the external wine tasting groups, and not to their guests. There were a lot of nice animals, and the enclosures/habitats were more than adequate for the animals.
I went here for my 40th birthday with my mother-in-law and sister-in-law. Without the plantation house, the main draw of Middleton Place is is the manicured gardens and remaining other buildings that are spread across the site. Set on the banks of the Congaree River, it has a huge array of interesting artifacts and interactive exhibits for you to peruse. Kids' area/playground at one end. Including me We got beautiful Congaree ranger badges that absolutely thrilled them. It was definitely worth the drive! An interesting property worth the visit.
Went here to see Tyler the Creator! Etched into the rocks side, the Confederate Memorial Carving depicts Civil War generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee, plus President Jefferson Davis. Well maintained. This plantation hotel, with award-winning architecture, is a beautiful blend of old charm and contemporary luxury throughout. Ive been to many many shows and performances of all types and they ALWAYS announce at the beginning of the show if you are allowed to take photos or videos.

All of the sites are large and easy to back into. The next thing you'll notice is the livestock running amuck. You can walk from the garden to the zoo, it's only 3/10 mile. Check out Saluda Ruins, BEAUTIFUL walk and an interesting story. This place is a grst day trip. The many signs along the walk helps learn about the siege and life back in the revolution days. Lots of benches. The museum houses more than 100,000 artifacts that represent the art, natural history, science and South Carolina culture. The is a cafe for snacks, a gift shop, planetarium, and hands on activities throughout. Great historical park to learn and spend a couple of hours! You can drive from Tuscaloosa to Charleston. Anyway, my kiddo and I had a great time today. The South Carolina State Museum is 225,000-sqaure-feet and features exhibits, a planetarium, only permanent 4-D theater in the state and an observatory. Inside a century-old textile mill, this museum presents a comprehensive collection of art, history and science exhibits depicting South Carolina's past, present and future. Zoo with African & Australian animals, reptile galleries, a bird house, a farm & botanical gardens. Dedicated areas like the Reptile House, Bird Complex, and Petting Zoo make it easy for visitors particularly the wee ones to get extra close to various species and learn through interactive exhibits. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in either local history or beautiful historic scenery. A very nice place to walk anytime of day. 5 minutes off the main route, 12% of way to Charleston. The bed and breakfast inn is located within the 110-acre Middleton Place, a National Historic Landmark with America's oldest landscaped gardens. The self guided tour is straight to the point and easy to follow.
Nice venue and adorable theater space. In addition to the animals, the zoo has a splash area called Waterfall Junction. It is a lot of walking so if you do have mobility issues they have provided benches throughout for a rest. Just beautiful.
I work at the computer so always have a ton of knots and she used very little pressure- it felt like someone was just rubbing lotion on me the whole time versus really giving me a massage. Construction on the structure began in 1851, but couldnt be completed till after the war; by that time, the Greek style was already outdated, but the buildings historical value and beautiful architecture make up for that. Today admission was $1 per person. The servers all wore masks. We decided to do something different for Christmas Day and had dinner at Chateau Elan.
The museum opened October 29, 1988 and is housed in what it calls its largest artifact, the former Columbia Mills Building. It made the experience not as great as it could have been. Atlanta is the most popular city on the route it's 3 hours from Tuscaloosa and 5 hours from Charleston. The State House offers free guided and self-guided tours Monday through Friday. For a stay a bit off the beaten path, choose the lovely Inn at Middleton Place, where you can enjoy the South Carolina countryside with activities like kayaking and horseback riding.
3 minutes off the main route, 39% of way to Charleston. My 9 year old loved the snow tubing and all the rides and my 2 year old loved to just play in the snow. We stayed in one of the land cabins. I would recommend setting aside 3-4 hours to see everything, this of course is set with a two old in mind. Located in Columbia, South Carolina, the Riverbanks Zoo & Botanical Garden is a favorite destination for animal lovers. The bleacher seating is very, very tight if it is a full house. Girls come on and take some time for yourself. you deserve it. It's a lovely get away. It marks the start of the state's Antebellum Trail of historic Civil War towns. Ample parking all around the stadium. Theres a trail that you can walk to from the campsites as well as beach access. I love this place! Im not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I recommend to come for the firefly season. Driving through seems as though you're entering a rain forest. One we all cherish is The Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.
Staff were nice and extremely helpful. If you love the Allman Brothers then this is the place you need to visit! They have 4 floors of exhibits. This is our 3rd visit to this South Carolina state park and it doesnt disappoint! There are other trails along the old roads which Id like to take if I have the chance to return one day. The carnival rides are mostly for small children and there are no bumper cars. Would stay again. This tour was amazing!

You will love the tranquil, smooth flight as the pilot points out the attractions, explains little details, and makes sure you have a great time. George Washington makes an appearance and I think there is a parade. Around Christmas time they have the park decorated with lights and a free drive thru light display! This is such a calm, serene place, where you can get away from the traffic and the crowd. The memories we made here the other day were great. The trails all offer a variety of scenery from forest to marsh to beach including the ghost forest at the south end of the island.
Overall a great experience! The store has ice, firewood and other supplies.
It's an absolute must attend once in your lifetime countless for me and I'm so grateful. The South Carolina State House is one of the most famous places to visit in Columbia and around its vicinity. Admission ranges in price and includes full access to the grounds, live history, and seasonal activities. The South Carolina State Museum is the states largest and most comprehensive. Felt like we were on a movie set or something. This is a great museum to take the kids for them to have fun, learn and explore. My husband and I stayed at Chateau Elan this past weekend for our anniversary weekend. We especially loved their African American History Monument - long overdue. It feels like walking into a friend's house,so warm, and personal. Healthy animals! Really they just have a tube that spouts out snow/ice. I was there for about 2 hours and got in my 10k steps. The top cities between Tuscaloosa and Charleston are Atlanta, Birmingham, Columbia, Beaufort, Stone Mountain, Augusta, Athens, Macon, and Marietta. They have kid friendly exhibits as well. There are 35 rooms available, each with a rustic decor that is designed to complement the natural surroundings. Other than that the scenery was beautiful, fishing was great and company was wonderful. The gardens are beautiful. I was a little disappointed that the Coach store was closed, but it is Easter Sunday. There is a cafe but we didnt go inside at all.
A total restoration was completed in 1998, leaving the columned faade, the ornate lobby, and the copper dome in impeccable condition. Another of the areas main plantations that people visit is the vast Middleton Place which is located half an hours drive to the northwest of the center. The State Building had gone through a long renovation and it is beautiful inside. If youre looking for an intimate venue to see a show, this is the place The State House and ground of the Capital Complex offer many works of art, including portraits and monuments. Lakeside water park with slides & a large wave pool, plus a mini-golf course & arcades. Its a gateway to Stone Mountain Park, named for the vast monolith at its center. The history of the place and the area provided in nice abbreviated detail. We went a little after 5 on a Thursday and didnt see anyone else there (except a man who kind of shooed us out at like 5:50). The ranger led programs are more concentrated during the peak season. Parking is abundant, well-lit, and apparently safe at one of the two complementary parking deck structures. Roughly 10 miles of hiking/biking trails at the park which we found enjoyable. With an exotic array of animals from every continent of the world, the Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden is a top spot to head to when in Columbia. There is another monument tag that will send you to the visitors center.
Tuesday is a special day here: besides extended hours they offer a discount on admission that day. Riverbanks Zoo & Garden is a huge park with animal enclosures and botanical gardens. Place is so full of music history and the staff are helpful, friendly, and amazingly knowledgeable.
